The BL50 is an improved and stripped down version of mid-1960's black panel style American tone crossed with an output section inspired by the 70's HD models. With its 50 watts of power, this amp is driven by 6CA7 output tubes and provides loads of tonal depth and shimmer. Unique to the Judge BL25 and BL50, you can achieve a warm scooped midrange when the mid is turned down and a dirtier, flatter, more "tweed" sound with the mid control is turned up. The BL line has a touch of fat tube-driven breakup when pushed. The built-in tube driven reverb adds depth and character, providing lush ambiance, from a little to a whole lot of surfy wash. Available in many different speaker configurations or as a head.
(The BL40 is the previous generation of this circuit using a slightly different power supply, transformers, and output tube set.)
Techie stuff:
Like all JUDGE amps, the BL50 uses an efficient and clean power supply inspired by the work of Merlin Blencowe. This includes removing AC line noise, large filtering, multi-step bias filtering, and elevated heaters. All of these features create a very low noise environment allowing your guitar tone to come through without possible phasing out of frequencies due to unwanted noise from entering the circuit.
The BL50 uses custom Pacific and Hammond transformers, Vishay, F&T, and Sprague capacitors, low noise/quiet/accurate military spec metal film resistors, and large gauge PreBond wire. Speaker wire is large gauge made by Beldon.
